We had a very fun and EVENTFUL to say the least 4th of july weekend this year. Our dear friends The Bells invited us to their amazing beach house at Garden City Beach this year. So we packed up and headed south for some good food, good times and even better company. The boys were in love with sweet baby Anne Harrison who is 1 and is literally the sweetest baby I have ever met. The boys loved calling her their baby and even more so loved helping take care of her. Saying we had an the best week would be an understatement. From fun in the sun on the beach and boat rides with the kids to fun dinners and drinks watching the sunset (and yes McSwaim that was the best sunset I have ever seen - ha)... it was the best vaca ever despite all our drama. See, the first morning we were there Philip decided he wanted to show Anne Harrison his room so they went into his room and the door somehow locked. Anne swears the doors lock on themselves and after the first night where my bedroom door locked (which I didn't lock) I am a believer. Anyways I digress... so all of a sudden the kids decided they wanted to come out but realized they couldn't bc it was locked. And to make things worse... their was a child lock door handle on the inside of the door so as much as I tried to coach philip he couldn't open it by himself. The kids then got scared and after 10 minutes both began to cry. Philip kept saying "mommy I promise I will be good if you will just let us out. Please." So I did all I knew to do and I got on the floor and put my fingers under the door and told him to hold my hand and together we would get the door open. However these were some good ol fashioned doors and as much as the guys tried to get it open - it didn't even have a hole on the outside to get it unlocked. So after trying to unscrew the door knob... we had no other option but to bust the door down. We talked Philip into taking Anne Harrisons hand and walking her safely to the far side of the room and when we saw that he had done this (praise God for video monitors), McSwaim used all his manly strength and knocked the door down. So the kids were finally free and the mommies could finally breathe again and though we had one broken door... things were looking up again. The second morning we were there, a bad storm set in and the power went out at like 5am. I of course woke up and then woke Phil as I was worried the kids would all get hot if it was out too long and after it had been out almost an hour I had Phil wake up Anne and McSwaim to tell them the power was out. They laughed and said - great, thanks we know but its still night time so what are we going to do. I of course had the great idea that we needed to call the power company and report it but Phil, Anne and McSwaim had a better idea of going back to sleep and I guess they were right b/c shortly after that we got Power again! So when the kids all woke, even though the adults were all super tired, we got all ready for the beach which we then realized we couldn't find the golf cart key that we rode to the beach each day. Anne supposedly had it the night before but it was no where to be found and after an hour of searching everywhere, McSwaim told us his secret that he had a spare and so we dodged that bullet thankfully. We joked that day that there must be something about the mornings b/c every morning we had drama... hopefully tomorrow would be different. However we were wrong!! The guys got up extra early on friday (our last day) and went to play golf and when the kids got up Anne and I were getting everyone ready for the beach. Philip was chasing after Parker and Anne Harrison and somehow tripped over the uneven floor from one room into the next and banged his head smack in the middle on the side of the door frame. He dropped in screaming tears. Anne was standing right there and when she went to pick him up he looked like a character in a murder horror movie. He was covered in blood and so I grabbed him and took him to the sink to get something to put pressure on it and to see it. When I finally got it cleaned and looked it was a huge deep cut straight down the middle of his forehead. I knew immediately he was going to need stitches so we rushed him to the ER and after lots of phone calls finally got the guys off the golf course. We ended up going to the big ER Grand Strand in Myrtle which was about 45 min away in hopes of a plastic surgeon. As we got to the ER the dr looked at it and said you can request a ps but we can stitch this up as he will need stitches for sure. So we of course requested the ps since its going to be on his face forever and couldn't be in a more perfect spot = smack in the middle of his forehead! The plastic surgeon however was enjoying a little golf time on the 4th holiday weekend and refused to come in so after lots of phone calls to my brother the dr and lots of him making phone calls to drs in myrtle we were told it was best to let the ER dr stitch him up. And when I say Philip was the bravest 4 year old ever... that is an understatement for sure! He did great! He cried a little when they put the numbing shots in the wound which looked beyond painful as open and as deep as this cut was (they said it was cut as deep as all the skin- so gross). And then the dr showed Philip the blue spiderman (as we called them) stitches that he was going to put in, Phil and I held him down while singing soft lullabies to him to calm him and he literally fell asleep. Yes you read that right - he freaking fell asleep as the dr was sticking what looked like a fish hook into his forehead multiple times. So he was perfectly still and the dr took his time and the end result looks great so far. The dr literally was laughing at the end as he said... well that was a first! He hadn't ever had a patient fall asleep without giving them something to fall asleep (which they didn't do for philip) during stitches before. Philip woke up at the end and we were all so glad it was over... next stop - well the ice cream shop of course!! Everything feels better with ice cream, right?!! So needless to say - we had the best trip ever but it was eventful for sure. Phil joked that the Bells will probably never invite us back and after all that drama - I probably wouldn't invite us back either. It sure was fun while it lasted though!! And Im sure this will be the first of many trips to the ER with these two boys! Thank you so much Anne and McSwaim for an amazing 4th of July vaca... we will never forget this trip! So. Much. Fun!!
